NEVER AGAIN FEATURES IN CNN REPORT ON EURO 2012

With just seven months to go until Poland and Ukraine host the UEFA European Championships 2012, the two nations are gearing to opening their doors to fans from across Europe.
But there is still concern over whether players as well as fans will be able to enjoy watching from the stands with threat of racism and discrimination still a major concern.
CNN's Pedro Pinto travelled to the two host countries speaking to key figures about the preparations for EURO 2012. Pinto spoke to the FARE network’s Polish partners and co-ordinators of the FARE East European Development Project Never Again about the work being done to combat the problem.
According to a report published by Never Again earlier this year, there have 195 reported cases of racism and discrimination in football in Poland and Ukraine over an 18-month period.
Rafal Pankowski from the Warsaw-based NGO spoke about how the European Championships was a chance for both nations to make a positive change.
“Monkey chanting, banana throwing, that has happened in Polish matches unfortunately,” said Pankowski.
“We want to use the Championships to highlight some of the issues and make a difference in a positive way in terms of anti-racism education”.
