7-10 pm (CET)

Taking a look back into the event that took place back in 1974 in the Carib Club, the ‘NEVER AGAIN’ Association in conjunction with British Black Music are inviting you to an event where similar events will be discussed post 1974 to present.

This is a video-led presentation by history consultant Kwaku sets up the discussion on the 1974 Carib Club incident and other bad club runnings.

History consultant Kwaku’s mash up video highlights the story of Dennis Bovell, one of the owners of the three sound systems playing at the Carib Club, also known as Burton’s, when a fracas between the revellers and police shut down the night’s entertainment, and the court case, that ended up at the Old Bailey, jail and its impact on his creativity. It goes on to highlight other bad runnings within clubland over the decades, be it from the police or racist door policies.

How much have things changed in the 2020s? This is some of the issues that will be discussed.
